Four years ago, on 27 June 2021, we lost a remarkable soul, Neil Evans, to his courageous battle with melanoma. He was just 48. Though Neil is no longer with us, his spirit continues to shine through the lives he touched and the vital legacy he created in the Neil Evans Melanoma Foundation.
Neil was more than a colleague, team-mate, friend, or beloved family member. He was a beacon of kindness, resilience, and unwavering generosity.
For three-and-a-half years, he faced his illness with a quiet strength and an enduring sense of hope, never allowing it to define him. His values—compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to helping others—were evident in every interaction, every gesture, and every word of encouragement he offered, even when he was suffering greatly from this terrible illness!
The creation of the Foundation, with the continued support of Melanoma Institute Australia, stands as a powerful testament to Neil’s enduring impact. Through his Foundation and the #beatmelanoma cause, now over a dozen late-stage melanoma patients have received life-changing support, guidance, and care when they needed it the most. It is a legacy rooted in Neil’s belief that nobody with melanoma should be denied access to treatment and care, regardless of their financial position.
Neil’s spirit of friendship was extraordinary! He had a way of making everyone he came into contact with feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether through a warm smile, a thoughtful message, or a helping hand, Neil brought people together and lifted them up.
His memory continues to inspire all of us at the Foundation to lead with empathy, to support one another, and to work hard to make a difference, just as he did.
As we remember Neil today (and every day), we honour not only the life he lived but the light he continues to bring into the world. His legacy lives on in every life touched by the Foundation, in every act of kindness done in his name, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
